MOVING DAY

[ the school grounds are swamped with cargo-filled vehicles, and people all around are exchanging teary-eyed goodbyes with family members and lugging heavy bags full of their belongings around. it's going to be a busy day of settling in, newcomers, but you can probably commiserate and help each other bring in your belongings, before relaxing outside with ice cream that the RAs are giving out as a reward for your efforts. fun times! ]

"That's awful." Lauren's eyes widened at the news. "Don't we get to share with girls our own age?"

"Most people do, but its random. I just have rotten luck, I guess." She sighed. "My Coach promised me this year I'd have my own room, but that apparently didn't work out..." Korra slumped over her ice cream, giving it another lick. "What room are you in?"

Lauren told her. "No one else was in there when I moved in." So her roommate could be anyone.

"What sport do you do?"

"All of them," She smirks, cocking her head and crossing her arms, hotly. "Basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming..." She waves her hand in the air. "I'm kiiind of a big deal here. And I'm on sports scholarship. So. You know."

Korra is naturally headstrong, but when it comes to sports, she always lays it on a bit too thick. "I'm the best we have to offer." She winks.

Lauren's eyes widened. "Wow." Her ice cream was starting to melt over her hand, so she gave up on it and threw it in the trash. "You can't possibly be that good in all of them. Why don't you pick one?"

"Nope." She smirks. "I'm the best there ever was." She doesn't mention that she doesn't play tennis. The four sports she plays are impressive, but being the best at all the sports is even more impressive.

"What a waste of ice cream.."

Lauren didn't care about the ice cream. "If you're so great, why aren't you training for the Olympics?" She sounded like she didn't think Korra was anyone much. Which was partly because she didn't and partly jealousy.

Korra's eyebrows furrowed. "Well, why don't *you* go off to the olympics? Since you're such a sports expert and all." Gosh. This girl was really starting to get on her nerves. She definitely wanted to be a professional athlete when she finished at Achtenberg, but that was a long way off. She just wanted to enjoy her talent and youth now while she could. Going off to the olympics was too far off a goal, even for her.

She shrugged. "I was going to, but I had to have surgery and didn't recover in training. I'll have to be content with being world champion."

With that, she turned and walked off. If Korra wanted to know more she'd just have to follow.

"W-Wait!" Korra stumbled a bit trying to catch up to her. "What do you mean, world championship?"

Lauren smiled briefly before she turned round. "I'm a world champion gymnast," she said, in the same tone she'd have used if she was telling Korra something as unimportant as her age.

"Gee, you'd think you could've mentioned that before you let me ramble on about how good I was." She mumbled to herself. "It's a real honor to meet you then," she smiled, grabbing the other girl's hand and shaking it forcefully.

Lauren smiled back, happy that Korra had the right attitude towards her - the right attitude according to Lauren anyway. "Now that gymnastics is out, I'll have to try out some other sports, once the semester starts."

Ah. Competition. Korra finally understood why Lauren was so reluctant to believe she was the best on all the teams. Lauren was... jealous. She cracked her knuckles. "Well, it'll sure be interesting having you on whatever team," She put special emphasis on team, just to show Lauren that whatever team she picked would never be quite as impressive as all the *teams* that Korra was on. "You pick."

"I will," she said, but didn't elaborate. She was sure it wouldn't take long for her to beat Korra in at least one sport, if she tried hard enough.

"See you around, Lauren." She said casually, getting up from her seat and running off to get her soccer ball, swim suit, baseball and baseball bat to practice, all the while hoping and wondering if there was a magical way to practice all three at once.
